History

The Men's Club was formed in 1925. The green being created on land donated to the community by Mrs Ellis. In 1931 the men were joined by a new ladies' club. The early changing facilities were placed on the side of the green adjoining Brabazon Road. The present pavilion was constructed in the 1960s. Many years ago the groundsman would often be present to take casual fees for bowls and for the tennis courts. He would also, for a small fee, put out strings to mark the rinks for members.

Over the years, the men have had success in playing for the County whilst the ladies have achieved international honours and currently provide players for the County team.

In 2006 the Borough Council arranged for the green to be re-laid. Then in 2010, after a period of friendly negotiations, the men's and ladies' clubs unified to form the present mixed club. A new constitution was produced that introduced a management committee to run the affairs of the club.
